History of St. Jude Parish
St. Jude Parish rose out of flat, sandy Florida earth in 1979 . Father Jack Totty was pastor and the site placed this parish in the Miami Diocese. Mass was said during the week in the homes of parishioners and on the weekends in the theater or cafeteria of the College of Boca Raton (Lynn University) as well as in the gymnasium of Pope John Paul II High School and St. Andrews Episcopal Chapel. Groundbreaking took place on the Feast of the Assumption, 1983 at which time all parishioners celebrated a parish picnic. In 1984, the Diocese of Palm Beach was founded and St. Jude was located in a new Diocese. In 1985 Church services were moved to the newly constructed Atrium of the school which was located on the fifteen acres earmarked for this new parish. Father Totty was reassigned before the project was completed and Father Barrett continued the building of the school and church. In 1987 the Church was dedicated by Bishop Thomas V. Daily. Father Timothy Lynch, the Third pastor, continued the construction with the building of the conference room and the adjoining offices when he replaced Father Barrett. Father Michael Driscoll O.Carm., our present pastor, has worked on the completion of the construction of the school and is hoping for the building of a parish center which will provide a larger meeting place. The faithful community of dedicated people continue to support the parish which is rapidly growing and now is serving close to 3700 families. |
